Paul Richard Hackstedde ’43

Paul Richard Hackstedde ’43 died November 20, 2007. Paul grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, and attended the Asheville (North Carolina) School. At Dartmouth he was a member of Delta Tau Delta and Bones Gate. After attending Thayer School he served as a first lieutenant in the Marine Air Corps and was sent to Africa near the end of WW II. During his career he was involved with bakery machinery manufacturing in Cincinnati, as a stockbroker and was employed in wire and cable manufacturing in California. He ended his career on a 400-acre alfalfa ranch near Bishop, California. After the death of his first wife, Mary Stevenson—the mother of his four children—he married Barbara Russell in 1980. Soon thereafter they moved to Scottsdale, Arizona. Paul was president of a Bible science association and active in his local church and homeowners group. He always found time for golf and yearly trips east to see family and friends. Paul’s father-in-law, Stuart Russell, was a member of the class of ’19. Paul is survived by children Paul, Mary, Beatrice and Peter; nine grandchildren; two stepchildren; and five step-grandchildren.
