Robert Splinder Fuiks ’43
Robert Splinder Fuiks ’43 died November 26, 2009, at his home in Vero Beach, Florida. Before entering Dartmouth Bob graduated from the Barnard School, where he was salutatorian. At Dartmouth Bob majored in history, was a member of Kappa Sigma and Green Key and was local advertising manager for The Dartmouth. He served as a lieutenant in the Navy during the war and spent 28 months in the Pacific, during which time he was involved in seven amphibious landings. Bob and Thirsa Sands were married in 1945. Before being called back into the service in the Korean War, where he served in the Mediterranean theater for eight months, Bob worked for The New York Daily News as an advertising representative. Home again and living in Darien, Connecticut, Bob joined Time magazine as an advertising representative. Later he became Time’s manager of corporate and industrial advertising. He retired in 1990, but continued to serve as a sales executive with targeted media subsidiaries of Time Inc. Magazines. He belonged to the University Club, the Dartmouth Club of New York City and Wee Burn Country Club. Bob was also active in Dartmouth affairs, serving as leadership agent (1998-99), participation chair (1994-95) and matching gift class chair (1989). Bob is survived by Thirsa; children Susan, Kimball ’72 and Matthew; and several grandchildren.
