John Martin Robinson ’45

John Martin Robinson ’45 died peacefully October 26, 2009, in Hanover. He came to Dartmouth from New Hampton (New Hampshire) School. He joined the Army Air Corps during sophomore year and flew 33 missions as a tail gunner with the 8th Air Force in Europe. He returned to graduate, after which he joined A.J. Knott Tool and Mfg. Corp. located in Milford, Massachusetts. He retired 38 years later as president and owner. He was a resident of Wellesley, Massachusetts, for 31 years before retiring to Hanover for the last 23 years. He and his family spent their summers at Lake Winnisquam, New Hampshire, where he enjoyed sailing and life in, on and around the water. John married Shirley Holmes in 1947 and they enjoyed traveling in Europe, the Caribbean and around the Greek Islands. He served the class of 1945 in various ways and helped with Little League and Boy Scouts. John is survived by his wife of 62 years, Shirley; sons Peter and Mark ’77; four grandsons, including Matthew ’13; and five great-grandchildren.
