Robert Johnson Finney Jr.

Robert Johnson Finney Jr., who, as director of development at Dartmouth in 1976 was the youngest in Ivy League history, died July 25, 2009, at TidePointe retirement community on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. No cause was given, but he had been suffering from pneumonia, according to friend Jeff Weaver ’63. A graduate of Palmyra High School, New Jersey, Bob majored in economics and marketing and was Rufus Choate Scholar and Tuck graduate. He was in Glee Club, Interfraternity Council and Delta Upsilon. Bob headed development at Dickinson College and a fundraising business before suffering a debilitating stroke in 1990. He held many alumni positions, including president of the Dartmouth Club of the Lowcountry of South Carolina. He is survived by sons Kevin and Robert III and sister Barbara and brother-in-law George Hagstoz.
