Stephen Alex Balogh ’51

Stephen Alex Balogh ’51, one of three in our class born in 1921, died on August 28, 2009, from natural causes at St. Luke’s Hospital in Meridian, Idaho. Born in Fairfield, Connecticut, he graduated from its high school, joined the U.S. Navy in 1942 and flew PBYs in the Pacific. At Dartmouth he was a government major, joined Phi Gam and played JV football. In 1954 he married Catherine Figg and started a family with two daughters. In 1955 he began a 45-year career with New York Life, living in Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan. He was a member of its Presbyterian church and St. Clair River Golf and Country Club and president of the Rotary Club. He was a traveler, proudly having visited all 50 states. Bowling was an activity he enjoyed up to his last days. He is survived by daughters Deborah and Susette and five grandchildren.
