David Austin Schirmer ’43

David Austin Schirmer ’43 died April 8, 2010 at his home in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. After schools in Bronxville, New York, Dave graduated from Kimball Union Academy, where he was on the football team and a member of the staff of the school newspaper. At Dartmouth Dave majored in economics. He was manager of the freshman hockey team and a member of Theta Delta Chi. After graduation Dave served in the Army, reaching the rank of first lieutenant. He and his wife, Regina “Reggie,” whom he married in 1945, lived for 35 years in New Canaan, Connecticut, where he was an elder in the Presbyterian church. He was a consultant with Booz, Allen and Hamilton and for most of his working years an executive recruiter for Paul Revere Life Insurance Co. Dave continued to enjoy tennis and golf, as well as travel, gardening and bridge playing. He was also an accomplished photographer and a master woodworker. Dave is survived by Reggie, son David Jr. and four grandchildren. Daughter Katherine, the mother of one of the grandchildren, predeceased him.
