James Mackoy Fisher ’54

James Mackoy Fisher ’54 passed away on April 2 in Dayton, Ohio. Jim entered Dartmouth from Roslyn Heights, New York, having graduated from Mount Hermon School. At Dartmouth he was an English major and a member of KKK, Jack-o-Lantern, the Rowing Club and AFROTC. After graduating Jim served in the Air Force for three years as a navigator and aircraft controller. After discharge he worked in advertising and as a manufacturers representative, living in Hamden and Wallingford, Connecticut, Syracuse, Pittsburgh and Dayton. In 1985 he moved to Wilder, Vermont, where he purchased and ran Wheeler’s Restaurant for two and a half years. After selling the restaurant Jim sold construction equipment and advertising for the Vermont Standard newspaper in Woodstock, Vermont. Subsequently Jim worked at the Hanover Inn in a “retirement-type job” for five years. (“More fun than any job I’ve ever had,” he wrote. “Living four miles from Hanover and working at the Hanover Inn gave me a new perspective about Dartmouth.”) In 1998 Jim moved back to Dayton. He served as the 1954 class newsletter editor from 1960 to 1964. Jim is survived by his wife, Joyce, four children and two stepchildren.
