Scott Blackford Meacham ’95
Scott Blackford Meacham ’95, son of Jane and Thomas Meacham ’65, died January 10 of pancreatic cancer. He came to Dartmouth from Anchorage, Alaska, majored in English with a minor in studio art focusing on architectural design, and was a member of Sigma Nu and Casque & Gauntlet. He played trumpet in the Marching Band and enjoyed telemarking at the Skiway and Tuckerman’s Ravine. He considered the language study abroad to Mainz, Germany, among the most meaningful experiences of his life. He spent a term in Oxford studying architecture and urbanism and after graduation bought a 1976 GMC motorhome with five classmates and drove to Alaska via Baltimore, Milwaukee, the Arkansas Ozarks, and San Diego. He then earned a master’s in architectural history (1998) and a J.D. (2004) from the University of Virginia. He lived in Richmond, Virginia, and worked as an attorney for the Virginia General Assembly for more than 10 years, drafting legislation and staffing state house and senate committees related to natural and historic resources. He was interested in Dartmouth’s history and architecture and started a website (and later a blog) called Dartmo.com in 1995 and maintained it the rest of his life. He wrote Dartmouth College: The Campus Guide (Princeton Architectural Press, 2008). He is survived by his parents, brother Brian, wife Sarah (Smith ’95), and daughter Camden.
