David Mark Goldfarb ’93

David Mark Goldfarb ’93 died at home on March 24 after more than four years living with a rare form of cancer. His wife of 25 years, Allison (Salkeld) ’93, was by his side. Raised in Avon, Connecticut, Dave was a standout math student and chess player and played on a state championship soccer team. At Dartmouth he cherished his professors and classmates and developed a deep passion for education that shaped his life’s work. Dave taught world history and political philosophy in Fairfax County, Virginia, for more than a decade before earning a master’s in school leadership from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. He later served as vice principal of nearby South Lakes High School and principal of Fairfax High School. A mentor and advocate, he championed equity in public education and found great purpose in helping aspiring teachers thrive. Dave, known as “Goph” to many friends, loved travel, soccer (especially the Premier League’s Arsenal), and summers at a lake in New Hampshire. In recent years he and Allison fulfilled a dream of returning to New England to live on a farm with their dogs and horses. He was a founding member of the nonprofit Hope Rising and volunteered with Learning Forward and Imerman Angels. Dave is survived by Allison, children Kate and Jonah, father Bill and stepmother Maureen, sisters Paula and Laura, and extended family. He was predeceased by his mother, Deborah.
