Robert Miller Brown ’79
Robert Miller Brown ’79 died on May 20 from a fast-moving brain tumor. Bob lived in St. Louis, Missouri, with his wife Julia Fitch Brown ’79. Bob was born on February 25, 1957, and grew up in Pittsburgh. At Dartmouth he joined Phi Delt, majored in economics, and, when preparing for the foreign study program in France, met Julia. He says they “quickly became inseparable and realized early on that we were destined to spend our lives together.” They were married in 1982. Bob and Julia attended graduate school at University of Texas in Austin, where Bob earned his J.D. and M.B.A. degrees. He became and proudly worked in public accounting for 42 years. He specialized in international tax, enjoying the intellectual challenges and the client relationships. Bob loved freely and unconditionally, encouraging first Julia and subsequently his daughters to use their talents to be their best version of themselves. He studied animal behavior to share daughter Meredith’s exploration of Central American and South African monkeys and read Chekhov and Shakespeare to prepare for trips to see daughter Carol’s plays. He took off on a 17-mile trek with Julia during marathon training (and was never so happy to get home!). Bob and Julia vacationed with family every fall, usually focusing on national parks and extended hikes. He was also a dedicated athlete. Bob is survived by Julia, Meredith, Carol ’12, son-in-law A.J., and grandson Clark.
