A. Thomas Perry ’63

A. Thomas Perry ’63 passed away on April 25 in West Lebanon, New Hampshire. Tom was born in Newark, New Jersey, and attended Union (New Jersey) High School, where he was class president and was active in various sports as well as the band, orchestra, and yearbook. At Dartmouth he majored in religion and philosophy and was class president for two years. He was a brother of Kappa Sigma and a member of the heavyweight crew and ROTC. After Dartmouth he joined the U.S. Army Adjutant General Corps and was stationed in the U.S. Army Artillery and Missile Center at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and was commanding officer of the transfer point. He left the Army as a first lieutenant and received a certificate of exemplary performance. Tom then joined New England Telephone and Telegraph Co. (now Verizon), where he worked for 20 years, living in Massachusetts and New Hampshire and eventually becoming director of strategic planning for New England. Tom retired early to return to Dartmouth, where he became development officer for special gifts for the “Will to Excel” campaign and raised money for the Corey Ford Rugby Fieldhouse, paintings for the Hood Museum, and a campuswide wireless network. He served the class as an Alumni Fund volunteer, class officer, member of the executive committee, mini-reunion chair, and attendance chair for the 50th reunion, which set a reunion attendance record. Tom is survived by Barbara, whom he married on the day after graduation; three children; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
