R. Alan Baker ’58
R. Alan Baker ’58, M.D., passed away in Kettering, Ohio, on December 28, 2024. Born in a suburb of Dayton, Ohio, Alan lived his entire life in that area except for his education and Air Force years. At Dartmouth he was a zoology major, a Chi Phi, and member of the Motor Sports Club. Two weeks after graduation he married Lois and a year later started medical school at the University of Cincinnati, graduating in 1963. After two years as a captain in the Air Force, serving in Kansas and Georgia, he returned to Dayton and finished his residency in obstetrics and gynecology. By his 25th reunion, after 13 years in private practice, he had delivered more than 3,000 babies, including several sets of triplets and one set of quadruplets. Alan taught as a clinical professor at Wright State University, was president of the Dartmouth Club of Dayton, and served as a Dartmouth admissions interviewer. He ran in the Boston Marathon for a number of years and found great pleasure in fishing, golf, stamp collecting, and family activities. Lois survives, along with a daughter, a son, and seven grandchildren.
