Ride and Shine

Bond Almand ’26 establishes a new biking record.

Bond Almand ’26 spent most of his fall off-term—76 days, in fact—on a bicycle. The Tennessean established a new record for completing the Pan-American route from Alaska to Argentina. He covered the 14,000 miles in eight fewer days than the previous record. He shot this selfie in September on Day 25. “I rode for hours in the dark. It was foggy so I couldn’t see much around me, but I was aware that I was constantly climbing,” he tells DAM. “The sun started to rise, and I was greeted with magnificent views.” Almand, who aspires to a pro cycling career, traveled 214 miles with an elevation gain of 8,900 feet on that day alone.
