Fred Wolf III ’68

Fred Wolf III ’68 passed away peacefully on December 23, 2024, from complications of Parkinson’s disease. Born in Wyncote, Pennsylvania, in high school he was active in dramatics, basketball, tennis, football, the school paper, and the glee club. At Dartmouth Fred was a government major and a member of Bones Gate. He is remembered there for “his bright and social spirit—an endless resource of good cheer, humor, and enthusiasm” and as “loyal, full of energy, very popular, and meaningfully engaged in the life of the house.” After Dartmouth Fred attended George Washington University Law School, then practiced at Frank, Bernstein, Conaway & Goldman, and served as assistant attorney general and counsel to the Maryland Department of Economic and Community Development. In 1992 Fred joined Ballard Spahr, where he led successful negotiations and closings of large transactions for major institutional investors. Fred was deeply committed to community, including serving in multiple roles with Mount Washington Pediatric Hospital. He led several transformational efforts there, including the joint venture between the University of Maryland Medical System and Johns Hopkins Medicine. Fred also served as chair of the board of Jewish Family Services and the University of Maryland Hillel as well as on the board of The Associated: Jewish Federation of Baltimore. Fred is survived by his wife of 56 years, Peggy; children Matthew and Rachel; grandchildren Winifred, Gabriel, Thomas, and Matthew; and brother John.
