George W. Johnston ’57

George W. Johnston ’57, a longtime resident of Wellesley, Massachusetts, passed away on January 3. George graduated from Ridgewood (New Jersey) High School. He majored in engineering, was in Alpha Delta Chi, played soccer, and was in the Glee Club. He earned his master’s from Thayer School in 1958. George served in the U.S. Marine Corps, training at Quantico, Virginia, before being stationed at Twentynine Palms, California. He completed school at Camp Pendleton (California). He served as battery commander of the Fleet Marine Force, Pacific, and was honorably discharged as a first lieutenant. In 1962 George began work at Isbrandtsen Co.’s venture capital subsidiary in New York City. In 1966 he joined Price Waterhouse’s executive recruiting practice and was transferred to its Boston office. In 1976 he joined Parker, Eldridge, Sholl, and Gordon Inc., a human resources consulting firm based in the Boston suburbs. In 1991 he moved into residential real estate. George served his community as president of the Charles River Rotary Club and was honored as a Paul Harris fellow. He was a deacon of the Wellesley Hills Congregational Church. He was an accomplished skier and enjoyed tennis, golf, and sailing, especially at his summer home on Martha’s Vineyard. He was president of the Dartmouth Alumni Club of Greater Boston, class mini-reunion chair and treasurer, and an Alumni Fund agent for many years. George was predeceased by his wife, Ann, and is survived by daughter Margaret and her family.
