Richard Edward Galardy ’68

Richard Edward Galardy ’68 passed away on August 30, 2024, in Madison, Connecticut, following a long and debilitating battle with cancer. Richard was born to Albert and Carlita Galardy on November 28, 1946, in Baltimore and grew up in Pittsburgh. He came to Dartmouth from North Allegheny Jr.-Sr. High School, majored in chemistry, and was an active member of the Dartmouth Outing Club all four years in Hanover. He was subsequently awarded a doctoral degree from Rockefeller University. Later he consulted with several medical companies, including Genentech. He lived most of his adult life in Connecticut, choosing to be as close to the Long Island Sound as he could get. He loved fishing, clamming, and all things related to the water and nature, including dogs and birds. Friends and neighbors have expressed sorrow for the loss a good friend, a good neighbor, and colleague. His closest friend described him in as “adventurous, idealistic, independent, empathetic, loyal, compassionate, and resilient, with a thirst for knowledge and a strong sense of justice.” He is survived by brother Robert and nieces Ellen and Elizabeth.
