Carl A. Boe ’65

Carl A. Boe ’65 passed away in Scarborough, New York, on September 1, 2024, of complications from a stroke. He came to Dartmouth from Deep River, Connecticut; Carl’s parents had immigrated from Germany in the 1930s. As Carl described his Dartmouth experience, “I was not the most sincere student. I will always remember the lower-floor clan in Fayerweather Hall, although some may never forgive me for flunking out and returning two years later after living in Switzerland.” Carl was active in Alpha Chi Alpha and crew. Carl began his career with Univac in Zurich, Switzerland, and moved to IBM in 1969. He served in top management positions in New York, Boston, and Yokohama, Japan. He traveled the world on business, becoming proficient in Norwegian, Germany, French, Swedish, and Japanese. Carl and Mimi were married in 1984 and immediately headed off to Japan to live, returning to New York City in 1987. Carl was an active member of Sleepy Hollow Country Club, where his obituary stated, “Carl’s real love was on the court, playing tennis and squash. He played regularly with his ‘Breakfast Club’ buddies. He was the consummate gentleman, full of joie de vivre, kind, handsome, and a true friend.” A fine skier, he was also a member of Ski 10 Club in Sugarbush, Vermont. He loved to paint, especially landscape watercolors, and he was a true lover of animals. Carl is survived by his wife of 40 years, Mimi, and sisters Dagne, Karen, Ingri, and Lulli.
