Raymond Brainard Woolson III ’81

Raymond Brainard Woolson III ’81 passed away peacefully on August 13 in Penhook, Virginia, surrounded by his family. Ray was born on December 30, 1958, in Plattsburgh, New York, to Patricia and Raymond Woolson II ’55. Ray grew up in Connecticut and New Hampshire. At Dartmouth he majored in economics, played football, and was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon/Sigma Theta Epsilon. He earned an M.B.A. at the University of Virginia Darden School of Business, where he met his future wife, Catherine Cooper. Ray had a successful career in finance as a senior executive and held several board memberships. He excelled at competitive marksmanship and enjoyed driving sports cars and skiing. Ray loved to laugh, give nicknames, and win games. He was a loving provider, faithful protector, and a constant presence of love and encouragement for his family. Ray served his faith and his church, including as a small group leader at Bible study fellowship and a teacher of personal finance for a prison ministry. Ray is survived by his wife of 39 years, Cathy; sons Raymond, Story, and Cooper; daughter Belle; mother Patricia; siblings Sabin and Tyler ’85; grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Ray was predeceased by his father. Contributions in his name may be made to Every Home for Christ, a favorite ministry of the family.
