Robert H. Nassau II ’63

Robert H. Nassau II ’63 died on July 10. He was born in Plainfield, New Jersey; raised in Vermont; and attended Phillips Andover Academy, where he participated in football and wrestling. At Dartmouth Robert majored in economics and premed; participated in the Ledyard Canoe Club, DOC, football, and wrestling; and was a brother of Delta Upsilon, where he was project chair, social chair, and president. He received an M.B.A. at Tuck School and went on to become a Dartmouth College Fund agent and a class officer, serving as treasurer and on the executive committee. From an early age Bob loved cars and in 1964 moved to Dearborn, Michigan, with the International Tractors and construction division of Ford Motors. After 17 years he took an executive role with J.I. Case in Racine, Wisconsin, eventually managing the agricultural division worldwide until 1982, when he joined American Hoist and Derrick in St. Paul, Minnesota, becoming president and CEO in 1984. American Hoist required major changes to achieve profitability, and Robert achieved success after four years and several takeover attempts. A seventh takeover attempt was successful, and Bob started a new career as president and CEO of St. Raymond Wood Products and regional director of F2 Intelligence Group. He was also a board member of the Toro Co. for 25 years. Robert was a descendent of William Bradford, former governor of the Plymouth Colony, and he spent his retirement in Plymouth, Massachusetts, and served as president of the Rotary Club of Plymouth. He is survived by his wife, three children, one stepson, and seven grandchildren.
