John W. Chapman Jr ’58

John W. Chapman Jr ’58 died on May 8 of pancreatic cancer in York, Maine. Jack came to Dartmouth from Marblehead, Massachusetts, majored in art history, and was vice president at Phi Delt. He played varsity baseball as an outfielder on the team that defeated both Harvard and Princeton senior year. After serving in the U.S. Marine Corps and completing an M.B.A. at Northwestern, Jack was vice president of American Shoe Machinery Corp. and later became a real estate broker. In his words: “Twenty-two years of corporate life gave way to earning a living in the ‘local economy’ of coastal Maine, (including) the better part of four years living on an old wooden boat.” In addition he volunteered with a youth hockey association, a wildlife center, and was president of his Rotary club. Jack is survived by his wife, Judy.
