Louis J. Bloomfield ’58

Louis J. Bloomfield ’58, Tu’59, Th’59, died June 2. Lou grew up in Shaker Heights, Ohio, and lived nearly his whole life in the Cleveland suburbs. He then worked for a pension-consulting firm doing actuarial work and pension administration. At night he studied law at Cleveland State University and was admitted to the Ohio Bar in 1965. Also that year, Lou started a 31-year career at Progressive Insurance, which grew to be the third-largest writer of automobile insurance in the United States. In retirement, he and his wife traveled extensively and enjoyed many concerts of the Cleveland Orchestra. Lou is survived by his brother, John ’56; wife Jean; one daughter; two sons, including Tom Bloomfield ’88; and five grandchildren.
