David B. Keith ’57

David B. Keith ’57 of Ocala, Florida, died on July 29. David graduated from Brockton (Massachusetts) High School and Thayer Academy in nearby Braintree. He matriculated with the class of 1957 and from 1954 to 1956 served in the U.S. Army in Stuttgart, Germany, where he achieved the rank of specialist. Returning to Hanover, he was a Phi Psi and in the motor sports club. He began work as treasurer of his family business, Keith Oil Corp. of Brockton, and sang in the choir for South Congregational Church. An aviation enthusiast since the age of 12, David was an accomplished pilot, receiving his private license in 1965 and his single engine, commercial, seaplane, twin engine, and glider ratings through the years. Beginning in 1972, after attending East Coast Aero Technical School, he worked as an aviation broker and in real estate. He was president of the Brockton Flying Club and part of the Young Eagles program, giving first flights to teenagers. In 2001 he moved to Ocala and lived at Shady Airport. In 2013 he was awarded the Federal Aviation Administration’s Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award for 50 years of safe flying. For 20 years David participated in the Pan-Mass Challenge in Boston, a 200-mile bike ride to benefit cancer research. He was a member of Kiwanis in Brockton and Ocala for more than 50 years. David volunteered for the alumni fund and as admissions interviewer. He is survived by Patricia, his wife of 59 years; daughters Christy, Diana, and Shannon; and grandchildren.
