Albert Jones ’66

Albert Jones ’66, a proud and lifelong New Hampshirite, was born in Hanover and passed away in Laconia on May 13. Al graduated from Lebanon (New Hampshire) High School before majoring in English at Dartmouth. He went on to own insurance and financial services businesses for 50 years in Newport, Claremont, Hanover, Lebanon, and Concord, New Hampshire. From 1972 to 1976 he served two terms representing the 8th District, around Grafton, in the N.H. House of Representatives. Al loved boating and teaching people to water ski on Crystal Lake in Enfield, Lake Kolelemook in Springfield, and Lake Winnipesaukee in Laconia. Al dreamed of owning an elephant since he was 3 years old. He got his wish in 1987 when Benson’s Wild Animal Farm in Hudson, New Hampshire, closed. He eventually rescued four more elephants and purchased a lion. He traveled throughout the United States for business and led family trips to Nova Scotia, France, and many ski mountains. Finally, in 2015, he took the trip of a lifetime: a safari in Africa to see elephants and lions in the wild. Al is survived by sons Richard, John, Michael, and Christopher; wife Larissa; eight stepsons; and previous wives Linda and Connie.
