Samuel C. Somers ’92

Samuel C. Somers ’92 died unexpectedly of a heart attack at his home on February 26, 2023. Sam embodied many qualities throughout his lifetime: positivity, intelligence, generosity, and, most abundantly, love. Anyone who had the pleasure of meeting Sam will recall a warm, embracing smile that conveyed and spread the joy that was at the center of his soul. He leaves his wife of 26 years, Diane, and daughters Reese, Abigail, and Emma. Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Sam attended high school in Edina, Minnesota. At the College he joined Alpha Chi and studied overseas in the Asian studies and drama programs. Sam majored in Asian studies and graduated summa cum laude and as a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He earned his M.D. from Harvard Medical School in 1998, completed his residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in 2001, then rounded out his formal training with a fellowship at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and a master’s in medical science-clinical investigation from Harvard/MIT in 2004. Sam joined Concord Gastroenterology in 2005 and focused his practice on collaborating with his partners and Concord Hospital Medical Group to provide expert, compassionate care for patients across the Granite State. Personally, Sam created circles of love in all the communities he entered. Sam’s family bonds and friendships were plentiful and lifelong because everyone was drawn to his joyfulness for life.
