Andrew J. Gora ’86

Andrew J. Gora ’86 of Toms River, New Jersey, died of congestive heart failure on March 15. Andy received his A.B. in economics and was involved with Gamma Delta Chi and World Outlook: The Dartmouth Journal of International Affairs. He was an alumni interviewer and a regional club vice president. Andy was the epitome of a fighter who never gave up, battling numerous health issues in the last two decades of his life and grateful for the class compassio network. Andy traveled across the United States in search of the elusive “big idea” that would gain him recognition in business circles. He dabbled in computer security and the New Jersey garbage business; sold medical appliances to ear, nose, and throat doctors; flipped houses; and sold Dell computers. Although he never found the big idea that would make him millions, he made a lot of friends in New Jersey, Colorado, Iowa, Nevada, and Arizona. Always a risk taker, he spent years in Las Vegas trying his luck, not always successfully. Quick with a joke and a laugh and always a rapid-fire talker, Andy will be remembered as someone who enjoyed food and was always late (but with “good” reason), passionate about sports, politics, and anything else that he could throw gasoline on to make it burn faster. He is survived by his younger sister, Evelyn. In memory of Andy, donations may be made to Aquinas House, the Catholic student center at Dartmouth.
