Michael Marriott ’84
Michael Marriott ’84 passed away on April 17 after a courageous two-year battle with leukemia. Mike was a visionary leader in the financial industry, a cherished mentor, and a friend to many, known for embracing every moment with zeal. After earning his M.B.A. at New York University Stern School of Business, Mike attained great success during a 32-year fixed-income trading career. Most recently he was a principal and cofounder of Capra Ibex Advisors, where he helped grow the firm with his extensive skills and experience. The defining role of Mike’s career was as cohead of the Credit Suisse structured products department, to which he was appointed in 2003. He brought stability and leadership to the department, adeptly navigating it through the financial crisis. Beyond his professional life, Mike was dedicated to mentoring others, including hundreds of finance professionals, as well as the students at N.Y.C.’s Cathedral High School, where he ran an algebra boot camp. Mike also served on the board of the Hopkins Center, as music was central to Mike’s being and permeated every aspect of his life. At Dartmouth Mike played first trumpet and was lead soloist as a four-year member of the Barbary Coast jazz ensemble. Until his illness, he led the N.Y.C. band Aged Inventory, in which he played both trumpet and keyboard, performing in more than 60 shows and raising $2 million for charity. Mike leaves his wife, Whitney, and children Dean ’18, Russell, and Bailey.
