Llewelyn R. Diplock ’57

Llewelyn R. Diplock ’57 passed away on March 6. Lew came to Dartmouth from Williamsport (Pennsylvania) High School. He majored in sociology, was a member of the Dartmouth Christian Union, and participated in the Film Society. Lew took Sociology 40 with Professor Eldredge, whom he credits for a lifelong career. Lew graduated from Dartmouth with honors and went on to earn a master’s in city/regional planning at the University of North Carolina in 1963. He worked in planning in Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota; Tehran, Iran; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and San Mateo County and San Diego, California. In his late career, Lew was on the faculty of the University of Wisconsin (Madison). Lew married Hamdam, an Iranian, and together they raised a family at his many work locations. His hobbies were karate, skiing, and gardening. Lew is survived by Hamdam and sons David and Robert.
