More than 600,000 holdings fill the new Library Collections & Services Facility several miles off campus—and there’s room for double that amount. Books, journals, microfilm, and other in-circulation resources reside there, nestled on 10,000 shelves that rise 30 feet high—dwarfing Qiana Johnson, associate dean of libraries, collections and content strategies. “Preservation standards help ensure the materials will be available for years to come,” she says. Translation: Wear a sweater. Temperatures don’t exceed 60 degrees, and relative humidity hovers around 35 percent.
