Stephen Cass Jones ’67

Stephen Cass Jones ’67 passed away on January 17 at his home in Florida of prostate cancer. Steve came to the College from Barnstable, Massachusetts; majored in art history; was a brother of Theta Delta Chi; and played hockey and rugby. Upon graduation he married Linda Morin, his high school sweetheart, obtained his J.D. from Boston College Law School, and returned to Barnstable to practice law. In the early 1990s, Steve reinvented himself and moved with Linda to Stowe, Vermont, to begin a new career with Maple Grove Farms, where he was general manager and vice president of marketing. After the sale of Maple Grove to B&G Foods, he played a leading role in building Emeril Lagasse’s food brand and enjoyed traveling the country with him to gala events. Steve was a gifted oil painter, played golf, and loved spending time on the water, cooking, and with his family. Warren Cook ’67 said, “Jonesey was one of a kind, one of my very best college mates from our frosh hockey tryouts to the day he died.” Grant Monahon ’67 added, “South Fayerweather was home to so many of us and to so many old friends, living and now passed. He lived every moment with incredible strength and good humor. He was the real Superman and will be missed by all who had the fortune to share his path.” Steve is survived by Linda; sons Stephen Jr., Todd, and Jeremy; sisters Jey, Candace, and Holly; and grandchildren Mia, Cass, Kai, Cam, Cayce, and Julius.
