Steven L. Sloca ’66

Steven L. Sloca ’66 passed away at his home in Washington Crossing, Pennsylvania, on April 1, 2023. Steve came to Hanover from Fairfield (Iowa) High School, where he earned varsity letters in wrestling and tennis and edited the school paper. At Dartmouth he joined the Army ROTC program, participated in the DOC, and was a mainstay of The Dartmouth for our four years, serving as editor-in-chief our senior year. Steve went on to graduate from Yale Law School and then served as a first lieutenant in Vietnam for three years. It was there that he met his future wife, Kim Hoang, mother of Steve’s sons, Lee and Andrew. He and Kim later divorced. Steve settled in Los Angeles and worked for 40 years at the law firm of Irell & Mandell until his retirement, when he moved to Pennsylvania. He was heavily involved in politics through the Bucks County Democratic committee and, as he had done at Dartmouth, wrote frequent opinion pieces, this time for the Bucks County Courier Times. Steve was an avid hockey and baseball fan and loved spoiling grandchildren Ellie and Abigail. Active in Dartmouth affairs throughout his life, Steve was the first class newsletter editor, in 1966; served as an alumni interviewer and alumni fund volunteer and, at the time of his passing, was legal counsel on the board of the Dartmouth Club of Philadelphia. Donations in Steve’s name may be made to Guardians of the National Cemetery in Washington Crossing and the Wounded Warrior Project.
