Cameron “Sandy” Burnham Duncan ’63

Cameron “Sandy” Burnham Duncan ’63, former president of the Detroit Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts, passed away on August 28, 2023. He was from Haddonfield, New Jersey, and attended Haddonfield Memorial High School, where he played basketball and competed in track (cocaptain). He graduated from Dartmouth with a degree in engineering sciences, was a brother of Zeta Psi (vice president), and ran track all four years. He was an alumni volunteer and fraternity agent. After receiving his M.B.A. in marketing from Indiana University, Sandy served his country as an officer in Vietnam. In 1970 Sandy moved to Detroit and began a 32-year career at Deloitte & Touche, serving many high-profile clients. Sandy’s contributions to the Detroit cultural community are profound. He served as treasurer of the Detroit Opera, general manager of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and president of the Parade Co. and worked with the YWCA of Southeastern Michigan, the Motown Museum, the Detroit Institute of Arts, and the Charles Wright Museum of African American History. Sandy also assisted with the restoration of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. He produced the Detroit Jazz Fest from 2001 to 2006. He continued as trustee treasurer and advisor to the president until his death. The administrative offices are named in his honor. He is survived by his brother, his companion, and an extended family of nieces and nephews.
