Newell Maynard Stulz ’55

Newell Maynard Stulz ’55 died on January 12. He is survived by son Elliot and daughter Amy. Newell majored in international relations at Dartmouth and was a member of Alpha Theta and the track team. After graduation Newell spent a year as a Fulbright scholar in Pretoria, South Africa. Following three years as a lieutenant in the Navy, he earned a doctorate in political science and African studies at Boston University. Newell started his academic career as a faculty member of Northwestern University. In 1965 he joined the political science department at Brown University, where he served until his retirement 38 years later.
