Gordon Russell ’55

Gordon Russell ’55 died November 25, 2023, in Portola Valley, California. He came to Dartmouth from Vermont Academy and Arlington High School in Massachusetts. He was goalie on Dartmouth’s hockey team for four years, majored in business, and was a member of Phi Gamma Delta, Casque & Gauntlet, Newman Club, and Air Force ROTC. After completing three years in the Air Force, Gordie earned an M.B.A. from Babson University and became a manager for scientific, high-technology companies in Silicon Valley, California. He then joined Sequoia Capital, a venture capital firm that invested in new medical companies. Gordie received an honorary doctorate from Dartmouth. Among his major gifts to the College were endowments of the Native American House, a high-tech center for the advancement of learning in Baker Library, and a chair at the Medical School, where he served as chairman of the board of overseers for 10 years. He is survived by his wife, Betina, son Justin, and stepsons Gregor, Patrick, Miles, and Anders.
