Mark Robert Bardo ’71

Mark Robert Bardo ’71 died peacefully of pulmonary fibrosis at the VNA Hospice House in Concord, New Hampshire, on March 13, 2023. He was born in Danbury, Connecticut, where he spent his formative years on the family farm. He received an A.B. in premed in 1971, followed by a B.M.S. from attending the two-year program at the Dartmouth Medical School in 1972. Mark transferred to the University of Washington to complete his medical training. While there, he pursued his interest in medicine by joining the Peace Corps as a community health volunteer in South Korea. After graduating in 1978 Mark began his family practice residency through the University of Colorado in Pueblo, followed by practice in Libby, Montana, and Concord and Barrington, New Hampshire. He said the favorite part of his workday was when he would walk into an exam room, and say, “How can I help you today?” He also loved working with wood, stone, or anything with the potential of being repurposed. A consummate student, Mark had an atlas and dictionary in nearly every room of his home. He loved the outdoors, whether skiing, fishing, or finding God’s beauty in majestic forests. He is survived by his wife, Elisebeth “Betsy”; children Nicholas, Samuel, and Johanna and their children; siblings Karen, Richard, Theodore, Alan, Brian, Bruce, and Elaine; and numerous nieces and nephews.
