John N. Citron ’57

John N. Citron ’57 of Harwich, Massachusetts, died peacefully with family at his side on November 22, 2023. John graduated from Scarsdale (New York) High School. At Dartmouth, he majored in government, played in the Marching Band all four years, and was in the Dartmouth Christian Union all four years. He earned his M.B.A. in finance from Tuck School. He began as a certified public accountant in New York City and in a long career worked at several advertising agencies, at one point overseeing global financial operations in 17 countries. John’s commitment to helping others and service to his community was inspired when he earned his Eagle Scout badge as a boy. Retiring to Cape Cod in 1996, he and his wife, Ellen, worked with disabled children in a therapeutic horseback riding program. He delivered Meals on Wheels. For 22 years he was treasurer for Helen Keller International, blindness organizations with programs in developing countries. He was a longtime treasurer and board member of Cape Abilities, an organization helping people with special needs. He was grateful for the opportunities Dartmouth provided and repaid the College in the Scarsdale, New York, club and Dartmouth Club of Cape Cod as scholarship chair and, for 22 years, treasurer where he was known for keeping the club focused and financially sound. John was an opera lover, a bird watcher, an avid reader, and a word game aficionado. He is survived by Ellen and children Jim ’86 and Marjie.
