David J. Goff ’93

David J. Goff ’93, M.D., passed away peacefully on April 23, 2023, surrounded by his family in Boston. Dave was born in Ridgewood, New Jersey, and excelled in academics and music, mastering both the piano and violin. He came to Dartmouth from attended St. Paul’s School and graduated from Georgetown University Medical School in 1997. He was a neurosurgical resident before transitioning to radiation oncology at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University and had a fellowship at Beth Israel in Manhattan. Dave loved his family and enjoyed trips with his daughters and son to Killington, Vermont; Rye Beach, New Hampshire; Cape Cod, Massachusetts; Long Beach Island, New York; and Disney World. His passions included surfing, skiing, gardening, hosting bonfires, and making people laugh. Friend Darren Postel ’93 shared, “Whenever I thought of Dave, my first thought always went to that grin. He had this way of chuckling to himself and smiling as if he was enjoying his own secret. I could talk with him and walk away feeling I just got an education in something, almost anything sometimes. Dave told me his fraternity [Theta Delta] saved a spot in each week’s meeting for the ‘weird Dave’ segment, where he would free associate any and all thoughts on his mind. I admired David and always tried to make sure I learned from his ever-present ability to chuckle, if only to oneself, at the oddities of life. He was a very good friend, and it is one sad shame that he was taken far too early.”
