Leon C. Martel ’55

Leon C. Martel ’55 passed away on September 22, 2023. Leon was a graduate of Newton (Massachusetts) High School. At Dartmouth he majored in philosophy and was a member of the rowing team, DOC ski patrol, the Russian Club, and the International Relations Club. Leon earned an M.A. in Russian and a Ph.D. in political science at Columbia University and served as a distinguished professor of political science at Hofstra University, He also was a commander in Naval Reserve Intelligence for 34 years. His wife, Marilee, predeceased him. He is survived by sons Christopher and Jonathan.
