John E. Gage ’68

John E. Gage ’68 died on June 8 in Henderson, Nevada, from complications of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. John grew up in Rockford, Illinois, followed the 3-2 Dartmouth-Tuck program, roomed in Chase Hall, joined Tabard, and graduated in 1969. After Tuck John began his career as an auditor with Price Waterhouse in New York City, followed by an international assignment to the Philippines while working for Pepsi-Cola. It was in Manilla that he met his future wife, Inda. Pepsi relocated them to Toronto, Canada, for several years, after which John joined Chase Manhattan Bank, where he spent the bulk of his career. Initially on assignment in Europe, he helped integrate a bank Chase acquired in Amsterdam, Netherlands, and later moved to London where he became controller of Chase’s European operations. Returning to New York City, he held a succession of executive positions and retired as senior vice president of JPMorgan Chase in 2003. John was an avid reader and world traveler who had profound respect for other cultures and the importance of friendship, values he passed on to his children and grandchildren. John, inspired by Michener’s Hawaii, fulfilled his dream with a beachfront residence on Oahu, where he and Inda enjoyed the sea and amazing sunrises and sunsets. John and Inda lived in Stamford, Connecticut, for more than 40 years before moving to Nevada in 2017. He is survived by Inda, daughters Malen and Marla, and three grandchildren. Son Sean predeceased him in 2010.
