W. Grafton Berger ’58

W. Grafton Berger ’58, a long-time resident of Tucson, Arizona, died March 18. Grafton was born and raised in Albuquerque. At Dartmouth he competed in track and sang in the Glee Club all four years, served on ski patrol for two years, and was a brother at Phi Kappa Psi. He earned an engineering degree in the Dartmouth-Thayer five-year program and, following service as an Army engineer, an M.B.A. at Harvard. After obtaining a license as a certified public accountant and a few years of management consulting for Price Waterhouse in Cleveland, Grafton said he “returned to the great Southwest, God’s country, in 1972” and joined Burr Brown Corp., a manufacturer of electronic components and systems in Tucson. Starting as controller, he eventually retired as chief financial officer at Burr Brown. In retirement Grafton studied comparative religion and philosophy at the University of Arizona, traveled extensively, and was active in golf, tennis, skiing, a local choir, and Junior Achievement and other Tucson nonprofits. Grafton is survived by his third wife, Gillian; three sons; and 12 grandchildren.
