Stephen LaVern Campbell ’67

Stephen LaVern Campbell ’67 passed away on January 12, 2021, in Raleigh, North Carolina. Steve came to the College from Excelsior, Minnesota, majored in Mathematics, and was a brother of Phi Tau. Steve completed his postgraduate studies at Northwestern University, receiving his Ph.D. in 1972. He was on the faculty of North Carolina State University for 47 years, writing a dozen books, publishing 300 widely cited papers, and advising 20 Ph.D. students. Steve is survived by his wife of 56 years, Gail, and sons Matt and Eric. As Gail put it, his was “a life well lived.”
