Tony Moroni Hanslin ’66

Tony Moroni Hanslin ’66 died peacefully in the Jack Byrne Center, part of the Dartmouth Health System, on May 11 after a long bout with Parkinson’s disease. Born on August 7, 1943, in San Angelo, Texas, Tony grew up in the original farmhouse of an active apple orchard in Melrose, Massachusetts. Old homes became part of his life. Tony also rowed at Dartmouth, where he was a member of Bones Gate and majored in economics. He took a leave of absence from school to serve in the U.S. Coast Guard during Vietnam and later earned a degree in psychology at Antioch University. He was the codeveloper and part owner of Controlled Environment Corp., which owned the private community of Eastman in Grantham, New Hampshire, and was owner of Yankee Barn Homes (YBH) until 2012. During Tony’s leadership YBH expanded significantly, providing new barn-style homes to hundreds of families throughout the United States and internationally. Upon retirement, Tony embarked on his passion—studying and practicing tai chi. He also earned certification from Rock Steady Boxing, a program that teaches boxing to people with Parkinson’s. Tony was a witty man who loved jokes and was passionate about reading, politics, his family, and his dogs. He is survived by his wife, Holly, who he married in 2003; stepdaughters Kirsten and Lisa; son Tyler; and siblings and in-laws. Donations in Tony’s memory may be sent to the Lewy Body Dementia Association.
