Ann Butterworth Feakins ’73

Ann Butterworth Feakins ’73 died on May 13, 2021, at home in Virginia Beach, Virginia. An alumna of Smith College, Ann was an exchange student in the early 1970s at Dartmouth and subsequently was adopted by the class. Born in Philadelphia and raised in Madison, New Jersey, she prepared for Smith at the Kent Place School in Summit, New Jersey. Ann, a member of Phi Beta Kappa, graduated from Smith in 1973. She then became the first female loan officer in New Orleans, Louisiana. Ann and her husband of 47 years, Paul Feakins ’73, who worked as a preparatory school administrator and as a college placement counselor, lived in Jacksonville, Florida; Montgomery, Alabama (Montgomery Academy); Princeton, New Jersey (Hun School), and Tidewater, Virginia (Norfolk Academy). She performed community service for many years in Norfolk as a driver for Lee’s Friends, a not-for-profit organization providing free services to cancer patients. Ann enjoyed participating in Bible study, her book club, and card-making classes. She was a talented decorator, cook, and hostess during holiday gatherings. Ann is survived by Paul, daughters Susan ’01 and Liz, son Nicholas, two sisters, one brother, and six grandchildren.
