Richard Wynn Foster ’65

Richard Wynn Foster ’65 passed away on November 8, 2021. He came to Dartmouth from Kettering, Ohio. He was a government major, house manager at Tau Epsilon Phi, and a member of the Newman Club and Army ROTC. Following Dartmouth Dick received his J.D. from Vanderbilt University School of Law in 1968 and worked for the Tennessee legislature in Nashville and as staff attorney with the Memphis and Shelby County Legal Services. In 1973 he opened a private practice in Memphis. During this period he was also co-owner of the Andes Trading Co., which sold high-quality, handmade tapestries and weavings from the Andes. After retirement Dick moved to Colorado, where he worked for a nonprofit family organization and helped raise funds for nonprofits. He then relocated back to Tennessee and worked as a consultant for the Juvenile Court of Memphis representing abused and neglected children. He moved to Fayetteville, Georgia, when he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease to live with his sister. Dick loved international travel, especially trekking and hiking trips throughout South America, Europe, Asia, Nepal, and India. He also enjoyed swimming, fitness, and weight training and was a certified personal trainer. In his spare time he enjoyed playing rugby and restoring old buildings. He will be remembered for his wry sense of humor, intelligent mind, and impressive ability to recall random factoids at just the right time. He is survived by his siblings Beverly and Allen and their partners.
