Matthew James Haley ’83
Matthew James Haley ’83—professional businessman, world traveler, and passionate hiker—of Barnstable, Massachusetts, died suddenly July 24, 2021, while hiking in New Hampshire’s White Mountains. He was a loving father of Madeleine, Jackson, and Grace; brother to Stephen (who predeceased him), Christine, Mark, and Maureen and her husband, Michael; and uncle to Isabella and Natalie. Matthew was born in Decatur, Georgia, to the late Edward and Shirley Haley. Following completion of his secondary education in Maryland, he graduated from Dartmouth with a geography modified with government. He was elected president of the rugby team and was a member of Heorot House and Sphinx. Matthew continued his studies at Tuck School, earning an M.B.A. in general management and founding the Tuck rugby club. He continued his love of rugby in Baltimore and played for the Baltimore-Chesapeake Rugby Football Club for many years. Matthew maintained close relationships with his Dartmouth and Tuck friends, many of whom organized a memorial hike on Mount Carrigain, celebrating his life with a granite plaque made in his honor. Matthew traveled globally for most of his career. He held senior management positions in a variety of consumer products companies, including Susquehanna Pfaltzgraff, Corning World Kitchen, Lenox Group Inc., PartyLite Worldwide, Crabtree & Evelyn, and Merida LLC. Most recently Matthew was the principal and founder of consulting and consumer products ventures White Horse Watch and MJH Brands. Matthew was a man of deep faith and active in the Faith Community Church in Plymouth, Massachusetts.
