Dudley K. Flanders ’74

Dudley K. Flanders ’74 died of complications from a head injury on May 31, 2021. Dudley came to Hanover from Southside High School in Fort Smith, Arkansas. At Dartmouth Dudley was a member of Heorot, the Interfraternity Council, Sphinx, and the rugby club. He graduated with a major in history. Dudley returned to Arkansas to work for his parents’ case goods company and launched a career in the outdoor furniture industry. In 1982 Dudley and his father acquired the Lloyd Manufacturing Co. in Menominee, Michigan, and founded Lloyd Flanders Inc. Dudley became president of Lloyd Flanders in 1983 and CEO in 1991. Under his guidance the company rose to prominence as the industry leader in all-weather wicker furniture. Dudley served in countless industry leadership positions, culminating in his receipt in 2015 of the International Casual Furnishings Association Lifetime Achievement Award. Dudley also served on the boards of numerous organizations, including the Arkansas Valley Habitat for Humanity, Weldon Williams and Lick, Bruce-Rogers Company, the United Way, the Cancer Support Foundation, and the Westark Area Council of the Boy Scouts. Dudley’s family was his utmost priority. His favorite vacation was always a trip to Lake Ouachita with them. One of his greatest joys was teaching his grandchildren how to fish. He also loved to cook and grill. Dudley is survived by his wife, Charlotte; son Dudley Jr.; daughter Jessie; grandchildren Madison, Myles, and Ezra; brother Donald Jr.; and sister Kathy.
