G. Gordon Kay ’52

G. Gordon Kay ’52, M.D., passed away in Fairfax, Virginia, on October 4, 2021. He was born on the island of Kauai, Hawaii, on November 18, 1930. He attended Punahou School in Honolulu, where he captained the swim team and then entered Dartmouth on a swimming scholarship. At College he was named swim team captain in his senior year. He earned All-American honors three times (1950-52). He was also a member of Phi Kappa Psi and Sphinx. Upon graduation from Dartmouth in 1952 with a biology degree, Gordon served in the U.S. Army for three years and then attended Case Western Reserve Medical School, where he met his life partner, Nancy, a nursing student from Falls Church, Virginia. The two were married in 1959 and settled in Fairfax shortly after Gordon completed his residency at George Washington University. Gordon established his internal medicine practice in Fairfax, where he served for more than 40 years. Gordon and Nancy were members of the Fairfax Presbyterian Church for more than 60 years. He was an enthusiastic supporter of Dartmouth, which inducted him into the Wearers of the Green in recognition of his athletic achievements. Nancy survives him, as does daughter Sheila ’82; her husband Kent Cooper ’82; daughter Sally; son Douglas; eight grandchildren, including Sally ’10; and one great-grandchild.
