Michael V. Whelan ’63

Michael V. Whelan ’63 died on August 6. He was born in Bathurst, New Brunswick, Canada, into a military family. He lived in Carmel, New York, and elsewhere since 1949 and attended Carmel High School, where he was class president, yearbook editor-in-chief, and manager of three sports. At Dartmouth Mike majored in government, was a member of ROTC all four years and a member of its drill team, and was a brother of Tabard. He served in the Army and later received his bachelor of laws at Dalhousie University Law School in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He practiced law in the United States and Canada. Mike had a lifelong interest in cars and cooking and was taught to cook by his mother and grandmother over a wood fire. His wife, Diane, predeceased him in 2019. He is survived by two children and two grandsons.
