Franklin Cobb Heinemann ’52

Franklin Cobb Heinemann ’52 of Sterling, Massachusetts, passed away on July 20 surrounded by his family. Frank was born in Los Angeles on November 28, 1930, and grew up in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. He graduated from South Portland High School and Dartmouth, where he was a Tuck major, a member of Theta Delta Chi, a letterman on the crew team, and graduated Phi Beta Kappa. He then earned a master’s at the Tufts University Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. He served three years as a supply officer in the Navy followed by study at the London School of Economics with a Fulbright scholarship. Frank then joined GenRad Inc. in Concord, Massachusetts, serving several years before embarking on an entrepreneurial career in the building industry. Frank enjoyed hiking the White Mountains, sailing with his family for a year from Maine to the Caribbean, and working outside around his house in Sterling. He was an active member of the Sterling Land Trust and served on the town finance committee. A lover of fine wine and adventure, he will be greatly missed by his family. His wife, Ann, survives him, as do son Ross, daughter Alexis, stepson Jeremy and wife Ann, stepdaughter Penelope and husband Michael, and stepgrandchildren Grace and Christopher.
