Cyril Irwin Crowther Jr. ’52

Cyril Irwin Crowther Jr. ’52 died on March 19 at Friendship Village of South Hills in Upper St. Clair, Pennsylvania, surrounded by his family. Born on January 9, 1931, in Mineola, New York, he was a longtime resident of Williamsville, New York, before moving to Pittsburgh six years ago. Cy prepared for college at St. Paul’s School in Concord, New Hampshire, and attended Dartmouth for three years before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa. Following his military service, he finished his studies at New York University with a B.S. in accounting and had a long career as the personnel manager for Republic Steel Corp. in Buffalo, New York. He was a longtime member of Calvary Episcopal Church in Williamsville, New York, and an early member of the board of directors for Hospice Buffalo. Cy was devoted to his family and enjoyed gardening, fishing, and golf. He shared stories of his childhood days spent at the New Jersey shore sailing and surf fishing, recalling hurricanes, and predicting the weather. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marlea; children Susan, Laura, and Thomas; and six grandchildren.
