Peter Jeton ’76

Peter Jeton ’76—linebacker, lacrosse player, grape picker and stomper, private-equity maven, banker, Texas Rangers fan, scout leader, husband, father, and friend—passed away April 29. He is survived by his wife Nancy (Kepes) Jeton ’76 and children Hannah ’12 and Eric. His idea of the ideal honeymoon was three years in Lagos, Nigeria. He was international and multicultural before it was the fashion and a supporter of inclusion, diversity, and equity as a way of living his life. He was a longtime board member of A Better Chance. Peter believed in institutions—Choate, Dartmouth, the Catholic Church, the American League—and was passionate about what he thought they could be, a vision that included a World Series victory flag flying in Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. Peter grew up overseas, and his life was a passport that included stops in Syria, Lebanon, Senegal, Congo, Tunisia, South Africa, Lagos, Sydney, Tokyo, Paris, and the States, including Andover, Massachusetts, and Cumberland Foreside, Maine. He was also, at his core, a New Englander, by choice though not by birth. He loved every acre of it, from the Lakes of the Clouds hut near the summit of Mount Washington to the shores of Casco Bay. Above all, Peter was a man of deep, abiding faith. It was that faith that defined him, sustained him, and inspires those left behind.
